About Energia...

Cross train for life

Energia was founded on a belief that cross-training is the best way to reach maximum performance and the highest level of fitness. There are good reasons why we recommend regularly training in our chosen disciplines of running, yoga + core, kettlebell, spinning, and CrossFit. Each one contributes to the whole: total mind and body fitness. Your training should be interesting, effective and fun! Cross-training engages the mind while challenging the body. Keeping things interesting means staying committed. Mixing it up reduces the chance of experiencing an injury. Training with an instructor in a group setting is fun and motivating.

Whether your goal is to finish an Ironman triathlon, climb Mt. Kilimanjaro on an adventure vacation, carry multiple bags of groceries to your car, or be able to play soccer with your kids you need to train for endurance, flexibility, strength and power while improving balance, co-ordination, agility and speed. Cross-training is the most effective way to obtain and improve upon these essential qualities. Functional Fitness for Life.

About our facility

Energia is a truly unique multi-studio facility. On our second level you’ll find our bright and spacious Spinning studio. With top-quality Spinning bikes, all with RPM monitors, and a massive video system for playing HD road videos it is a Spinning studio like no other. We chose to be a certified Spinning studio because we want to offer the highest level of quality and service. When it comes to indoor cycling Spinning was the first and it’s still the best.

On our third floor are two more studios: the first being our Garage Gym. Our largest studio features all the equipment required for CrossFit training as well as an extensive Kettlebell selection. We are a registered CrossFit affiliate which means that we only employ CrossFit coaches who have completed the rigorous CrossFit coaching training course. In addition, all of our Kettlebell instructors are Agatsu certified. Rest assured we have extensive knowledge and experience in these two disciplines.

Our soothing yoga studio also has a few unique features that you’ll notice: along the full length of one wall is an Iyengar rope wall – a great tool for gaining traction and support in yoga poses. We also have extensive ceiling mounted infrared heating panels allowing us to heat the room during certain classes. This type of heat is like no other in that it very closely resembles the warmth of the sun – it’s a heat that you can feel subtly warming your body.

We have two large coat & boot areas as well as extra room inside the studios for personal valuables. We have two large washroom and changing rooms with showers, and complimentary towels and toiletries.

About our founders

Lea Amaral

It is rare to find an instructor with such mastery over a range of disciplines. Lea took up running in her late teens, first for fitness but soon finding competition. She has competed in all distances including 8 marathons across North America, one being the prestigious Boston Marathon. She was one of the first to join the wave when Spinning gained popularity in the late 80's, and she has been teaching Spinning ever since. Lea found her passion for yoga in the late 90's and became a certified yoga instructor shortly after. She has studied with Yoga icons David Swenson and Paul Grilley among others, and continues her journey of learning by regularly attending courses both locally and internationally. Lea discovered Kettlebell training in 2009 and has extensive experience in this methodology – as a fitness tool but also as a Kettlebell Sport competitor. Lea is also passionate about CrossFit training and in addition to her own CrossFit training she also coaches at Energia and designs all of the CrossFit programming for the facility.

Jon Dunnill

Jon started his dedication to a fitness lifestyle in his mid 20's by taking up running. First looking for a way to improve his personal health he soon discovered a running group and experienced the motivation and camaraderie of running with others. Racing followed - first 5 K's and then steadily increasing race distances up to the full marathon. Jon then combined his passion for running & cycling by competing in several Olympic distance triathlon races. Jon was briefly sidelined from running with an injury in 2001 and this was when he found Spinning as a way to maintain endurance and cardiovascular fitness. He has been a dedicated Spinning enthusiast ever since. Jon has been training with Kettlebells since 2009 and has been on both sides of the Kettlebell Sport platform – as a competitor and as a Head Judge and co-organizer of competitions. Jon regularly trains the Energia CrossFit WODs and enjoys coaching brand new and seasoned CrossFitters.
