Cross-train For Life

Energia Athletics was founded on a belief that cross-training is the best way to reach maximum performance and the highest level of fitness. There are good reasons why we recommend regularly training in our four chosen disciplines of running, yoga, kettlebell and spinning. Each one contributes to the whole: total mind and body fitness. Your training should be interesting, effective and fun! Cross-training engages the mind while challenging the body. Keeping things interesting means staying committed. Mixing it up reduces the chance of experiencing an injury. Training with an instructor in a group setting is fun and motivating.

Whether your goal is to finish an Ironman triathlon, climb Mt. Kilimanjaro on an adventure vacation, carry multiple bags of groceries to your car, or be able to play soccer with your kids you need to train for endurance, flexibility, strength and power. Cross-training is the most effective way to obtain and improve upon these essential qualities. Functional Fitness for Life.

About our founders:

Lea Amaral
It is rare to find an instructor with such mastery over a range of disciplines. Lea took up running in her late teens, first for fitness but soon finding competition. She has competed in all distances including 8 marathons across North America, one being the prestigious Boston Marathon. She was one of the first to join the wave when Spinning gained popularity in the late 80's, and she has been teaching Spinning ever since. Lea found her passion for yoga in the late 90's and became a certified yoga instructor shortly after. She has studied with Yoga icons David Swenson and Paul Grilley among others, and continues her journey of learning by regularly attending courses both locally and internationally. Lea's discovery of Kettlebell training has been a perfect addition to her well rounded fitness regimen.

Jon Dunnill
Jon started his dedication to a fitness lifestyle in his mid 20's by taking up running. First looking for a way to improve his personal health he soon discovered a running group and experienced the motivation and camaraderie of running with others. Racing followed - first 5 K's and then steadily increasing race distances up to the full marathon. Jon then combined his passion for running & cycling by competing in several Olympic distance triathlon races. Jon was briefly sidelined from running with an injury in 2001 and this was when he found Spinning as a way to maintain endurance and cardiovascular fitness. He has been a dedicated Spinning enthusiast ever since. Jon is excited about having added Kettlebell training to his mix as he feels this sport has tremendous cross-over potential.
