Spring Super Foods for Your Liver
Spring is a perfect time to flush toxins from your liver and cleanse your body in general. Over time and with poor food choices we over-work our cleansing organs, such as our liver. Eventually so much waste builds up that it can't do its job. This toxicity can cause chronic conditions to develop and is one of the ways our body deteriorates. This is where a healthy elimination system comes in handy. As the seasons change, you may find that you are already naturally craving lighter, leafier foods, so go with that feeling. Consume less greasy, heavy, or starchy foods like animal products, dairy, bread and sugar, and choose instead foods that cleanse the entire body and heal the liver at the same time. So, here are a few interesting spring cleansing foods for your liver:
Five Spring Foods for Your Liver:
1. Asparagus have anticancer, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Asparagus have high levels of folate, potassium, and extremely high levels of Vitamin C – all of which assist the liver. They also contain glutathione, which cleanses the liver and protects against free radicals.
2. Cucumbers are made mostly of water and they contain no natural fat. Staying well hydrated is important to supporting your liver, because water helps carry toxins out of the body.
3. Radishes can help regulate the production of bilirubin and bile. They can also release enzymes that keep the liver clean of infection and prevent ulcers of the liver.
4. Kale and all bitter greens detoxify, rejuvenate and cool an overworked liver. Also try lettuce, watercress, alfalfa and collard greens.
5. Turmeric boosts the natural production of bile and improves overall function of the gallbladder, another body-purifying organ. Turmeric can even help regenerate damaged liver cells.
Tip: Avoid alcohol, eggs, dairy, sugar and all sweeteners, and white flour (or all gluten) while cleansing. These are tricky to digest, cause build-up in the body, and demand the most work from your liver.
